Quick answer

0800 056 0081 in 10 seconds

Lost or stolen
0800 056 0081, MBNA's line to report a lost or stolen credit card.
Declined or fraud
0800 587 0997, for a declined card payment or credit card fraud. MBNA's card declined page calls it "our fraud line, which is available 24/7".
Hours
Round the clock, every day, for both lines, MBNA's Call us page says. No time zone is given.
Cash machines
MBNA sets a daily cash withdrawal limit of £500, one of the reasons it gives for a declined card, alongside an expired card, a freeze, the credit limit and a PIN locked after three wrong tries.
From abroad
MBNA prints a +44 number for each line for callers outside the UK, and its in-app call button needs the phone number MBNA holds for you. It does not say whether the 0800 lines connect from a foreign network: from your operator they may not connect. Both go through with Losali, from your browser.
In the app
Search 'lost card or stolen card' to cancel the card, freeze it while you look, or write to MBNA under Support, 'Message us 24/7'.

How it works

Call the UK in three steps

A Losali call starts in under a minute, from any country, with no installation and no UK SIM card.

  1. Create your Losali account

Sign up in a few seconds, without an app or a UK SIM card. Your account opens access to UK special numbers: freephone, geographic, 03 and service lines.

  2. Add credit when you need it

Pay only for the calls you make, at €0.99/min, with no subscription and no commitment. The price is shown before the call starts, and a call that does not connect is never charged.

  3. Call the number as written

Allow the microphone and you are connected. You dial the number exactly as it is written on this page, without +44.

About

Everything about calling MBNA from abroad

Missing card, or refused card?

MBNA is a credit card issuer, and its Call us page keeps two 0800 lines apart. Report a card that is lost or stolen on 0800 056 0081. If the card is still in your hand but a payment was declined, or you see a charge you did not make, the number is 0800 587 0997, which MBNA's help pages also call its fraud line. Both are listed as open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. General credit card support is a 0345 number with daytime hours, not covered here.

What MBNA checks first when a card is declined

MBNA's card declined page runs through the common causes: the card has expired, the security code was mistyped, a freeze is switched on, the credit limit is reached, or the billing name and address do not match its records. It also sets a daily cash withdrawal limit of £500, and notes that cash machine operators can set limits of their own. Three wrong PIN entries in a row lock the PIN, even across different shops.

MBNA keeps lost or stolen cards and declined payments on two separate 0800 lines, both of which it says are open around the clock.
Have this ready
  • Which line you need: lost or stolen, or declined and fraud.
  • The merchant, amount and time of the refused or unknown payment.
  • Whether you want a new card and a PIN reminder.
  • Your address: MBNA asks you to confirm it when you report a card lost or stolen online.

The app, and calling from abroad

In the MBNA app, search for lost card or stolen card and follow the steps; Online Services has the same option under Help and support. MBNA blocks the card straight away, and a cancelled card cannot be reinstated, so if you have only misplaced it you can freeze it while you look. The app also has secure messaging, which MBNA labels Message us 24/7, and a call button that only works from the mobile number registered with MBNA. For callers outside the UK, MBNA lists +44 1244 757 229 for lost or stolen cards and +44 1244 757 236 for declines and fraud.

Reaching the 0800 lines through Losali

MBNA does not say whether its 0800 numbers answer calls from a foreign network or what they cost from there; that is between you and your operator. Losali is an independent dialler that runs in a web browser: the call goes over the internet and Losali's telecom carrier connects it to MBNA's 0800 number, so your foreign network carries only data. You need no app and no UK SIM.

What kind of number is this?

Freephone 0800 / 0808. Free to call from inside the UK. Losali shows the price before the call starts.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much cash can I withdraw with an MBNA card in a day?

MBNA puts its daily cash withdrawal limit at £500, and lists that limit among the reasons a card can be refused.

Can I message MBNA instead of calling?

Yes, in the MBNA app: open Support, then Message us 24/7. MBNA describes the messages as secure.

What does MBNA ask when I report a lost card online?

In Online Services, under Help and support, then Lost or stolen card, you choose the card, say whether you need a new card and a PIN reminder, and confirm your address. MBNA says the card is blocked straight away, and that a cancelled card cannot be reinstated.

What kind of number is 0800 587 0997?

A UK 0800 freephone number. MBNA gives it for credit card transaction declines and for credit card fraud, and says it is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. MBNA does not say whether it connects from a foreign network.

Which MBNA number do I use for a lost card?

MBNA gives 0800 056 0081 to report a lost or stolen card, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can also report it in the MBNA app or in Online Services.

Can I use the call button in the MBNA app abroad?

MBNA says calls through the app must come from the mobile number registered with it. It does not say how the feature behaves on a foreign network.

Is Losali part of MBNA?

No. Losali is an independent service that connects a web browser to UK telephone numbers over the internet. It is not a card issuer, has no link with MBNA or Lloyds Banking Group, and no access to your account or card.

Can I call MBNA on 0800 056 0081 from abroad with Losali?

Yes. Click the number on this page, sign in, allow the microphone and the call is placed onto the UK network from your browser. The per-minute price is shown before the call starts and a call that does not connect is never charged.
