Use the app first, the phone if you cannot
Monzo is clear that the in-app chat is the best way to reach its support team, and that you can chat at any hour for urgent problems such as a stolen card, a payment you cannot make or suspected fraud. The phone line, 0800 088 4040, is the route Monzo gives when you cannot get into the app, or when you are having trouble signing up.
Why you might ring Monzo from abroad
If your phone is lost or stolen on a trip, the app goes with it. Monzo's lost card help says to freeze the card in the app and order a new one, and if you have no access to the app, to sign in to Monzo Web at web.monzo.com with a magic link sent to your email and freeze the card there. If you are still stuck, it gives the phone line and the email address help@monzo.com.
Calling a UK 0800 line from a foreign network
Monzo says the 0800 number is free to call, and gives a separate number for callers abroad, +44 20 3872 0620. It does not say whether 0800 088 4040 itself can be reached from a foreign network, or what that costs; ask your operator.
What Losali does with this number
Losali is an independent dialler that runs in a web browser. The call travels over the internet and Losali's telecom carrier connects it to Monzo's 0800 number, so your foreign network only carries data. You need no app and no UK SIM, which helps when your phone is the thing that went missing: a laptop or a borrowed device is enough.

Hours, and the ways in without calling
Monzo says its team is available for urgent queries 24/7, and answers questions that are not urgent between 7am and 8pm, 7 days a week, by call or chat. In the app, a lost or damaged card is frozen and replaced from Home, then Card, then Freeze and Order a new card; for a stolen card, choose the option for fraud or theft. Monzo Web can freeze a card without the app, and help@monzo.com is there for app access problems.
