Quick answer

0800 028 8335 in 10 seconds

Card line
0800 028 8335: a lost or stolen card, a declined debit or credit card payment, or debit or credit card fraud.
Internet Banking fraud
0800 567 4971, a line of its own.
Hours
Round the clock, 7 days a week, for both lines, the bank says. No time zone is given.
Abroad Freeze
A card freeze that, in the bank's words, "stops payments outside the UK in person and at Cashpoint machines". Its travel page asks you to turn it off on the card you plan to use abroad.
Two spellings
The Call us page prints the card line as 0800 028 8335 and as 0800 0288 335. The digits are identical: it is one number.
From abroad
The bank lists a +44 number for each line "if you're outside of the UK" and says nothing about dialling the 0800 numbers from a foreign network. From your operator they may not connect. Both go through with Losali, from your browser.

How it works

Call the UK in three steps

A Losali call starts in under a minute, from any country, with no installation and no UK SIM card.

  1. Create your Losali account

Sign up in a few seconds, without an app or a UK SIM card. Your account opens access to UK special numbers: freephone, geographic, 03 and service lines.

  2. Add credit when you need it

Pay only for the calls you make, at €0.99/min, with no subscription and no commitment. The price is shown before the call starts, and a call that does not connect is never charged.

  3. Call the number as written

Allow the microphone and you are connected. You dial the number exactly as it is written on this page, without +44.

About

Everything about calling Bank of Scotland from abroad

A card that stops working outside the UK

Bank of Scotland says you do not need to tell it when you travel abroad. Its travel page lists one setting to check before you go: Abroad Freeze, which the bank says ‘stops payments outside the UK in person and at Cashpoint machines’. If you added it to the card you are using, the bank's advice is to turn it off. The bank adds that its fraud systems watch for suspicious activity and asks you to keep your contact details current in case it needs to reach you while you are away.

The 24/7 line for cards

If the card is still refused, or it has gone missing, or there are payments you did not make, the Call us page sends all three to 0800 028 8335. The page prints it as 0800 028 8335 in one place and 0800 0288 335 in another; the digits are the same. A separate line, 0800 567 4971, handles Internet Banking fraud. Both are listed as open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, while replacement cards, disputes and everyday account questions go to 0345 numbers with daytime hours.

If the card fails abroad
  • Check whether Abroad Freeze or another card freeze is switched on.
  • Pay another way for now: the bank itself suggests taking a second means of payment.
  • Note the place, amount and time of the refused payment.
  • If the card is gone, report it lost or stolen.

Calling from a foreign phone

Bank of Scotland gives +44 131 454 1605 for the card line and +44 1132 888 408 for Internet Banking fraud if you are outside the UK. It says nothing about whether the 0800 numbers can be dialled from a foreign network. Losali, an independent dialler that runs in a web browser, offers another route: the call travels over the internet and Losali's telecom carrier connects it to the 0800 number, so your local network carries only data. No app or UK SIM is needed.

Bank of Scotland says you do not need to tell it before you travel, and asks you to turn off Abroad Freeze if you added it to the card you plan to use abroad.

Reporting a lost card in the app

The bank says reporting online blocks the card immediately and saves a phone call. In the app, type lost or stolen in the search bar and fill in a quick form; in online banking, choose Help & Support from the account overview. A cancelled card cannot be reinstated. The new card arrives in 5 working days, depending on the card, and the app shows new debit card details the next day and credit card details within 5 days. If you are not registered for online banking, the bank says to call.

What kind of number is this?

Freephone 0800 / 0808. Free to call from inside the UK. Losali shows the price before the call starts.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What does Abroad Freeze stop on a Bank of Scotland card?

Payments outside the UK in person and at Cashpoint machines, the bank says. It is one of the card freezes it offers, with freezes for contactless and in-person payments. Its travel page asks you to turn Abroad Freeze off on a card you plan to use abroad.

Is 0800 0288 335 the same number as 0800 028 8335?

Yes. Bank of Scotland's Call us page writes its card line both ways, and the digits match. That one line covers lost or stolen cards, declines and card fraud.

Can I report a lost card if I am not registered for online banking?

Yes, by phone: the bank says that if you're not registered for online banking, you can call it, on 0800 028 8335 for a lost or stolen card. If you are registered, reporting in the app or online banking blocks the card immediately.

What kind of number is 0800 028 8335?

Do I need to tell Bank of Scotland I am going abroad?

No. Bank of Scotland says you do not need to tell it when you travel. It suggests turning off Abroad Freeze if you added it to the card you plan to use, and keeping your contact details up to date.

Which number is for Internet Banking fraud?

Bank of Scotland gives 0800 567 4971 for Internet Banking fraud, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Card fraud goes to 0800 028 8335.

No. Losali is an independent service that connects a web browser to UK telephone numbers over the internet. It is not a bank, has no link with Bank of Scotland and no access to your accounts or cards.

Can I call Bank of Scotland on 0800 028 8335 from abroad with Losali?
