What the Independent Age Helpline is for
Independent Age says its Helpline is for people who have reached State Pension age, and those approaching it who want to plan for their future. You can call for information, for impartial advice from a specialist adviser or to order its free guides. Topics it names include benefits and what you may be able to claim, help to apply, paying for care and support at home, housing problems and grants you may qualify for. If the team can help right away, it will; for something more complicated, it arranges a free chat with a specialist adviser.
Free benefits checks
Independent Age offers free, confidential benefits checks to people who have reached State Pension age or will reach it within six months. The adviser will usually ask about pensions and benefits already received, earnings, savings or investments, rent or mortgage and service charges, and Council Tax. If someone else lives with you, the adviser may ask about them too.
Calling a UK 0800 number from abroad
0800 319 6789 is a UK freephone number. Independent Age publishes no number for callers abroad, says nothing on its contact pages about calls from outside the UK and gives its hours without a time zone. From a foreign phone, check the cost with your own provider.
